หากเอ่ยถึงบรรดาสถานที่ชมพระอาทิตย์ตกที่ขึ้นชื่อของเมืองไทย เชื่อแน่ว่านักท่องเที่ยวจำนวนไม่น้อยคงต้องนึกถึง “ แหลมพรหมเทพ ” ที่จังหวัดภูเก็ต เพราะมีหลายสิ่งที่แตกต่างไปจากที่อื่นๆ เช่นจุดชมวิวอยู่บนชะง่อนเขา ซึ่งมองเห็นทะเลอันเวิ้งว้างได้รอบทิศ และบริเวณนั้นก็ยังมีทิวทัศน์ที่สวยงาม เป็นภาพที่มีเสน่ห์ มีมนต์ขลัง ชวนให้หลงไหล และยังเป็นจุดถ่ายรูปที่นิยมมากอีกด้วย
แหลมพรหมเทพนั้นถือว่าเป็นสถานที่โรแมนติกแห่งหนึ่งของเกาะภูเก็ต หลายคู่มักชวนกันมานั่งชมพระอาทิตย์ตก ดื่มด่ำกับบรรยากาศใน ยามเย็นที่มองเห็นระลอกคลื่นแต่ไกล ทอดอารมณ์และปล่อยความรู้สึกไปกับทะเลที่ระยิบระยับอันกว้างไกล มีท้องฟ้าเป็นฉากขนาดใหญ่ อยู่เบื้องหน้า มองเห็นดวงอาทิตย์ลูกกลมสีแดงสดค่อยๆทอดตัวลงแตะขอบน้ำแล้วก็จมหายไป เหมือนเป็นการปิดฉากละครเวทีของธรรมชาติ ที่หลายร้อยชีวิตกำลังจ้องมองดูอย่างประทับใจ ก่อนที่เวทีขนาดยักษ์นี้จะค่อยๆมึดลงและผู้ชมต่างทะยอยลุกจากที่นั่ง
ปัจจุบันแหลมพรหมเทพ กลายเป็นแหล่งนัดพบของนักท่องเที่ยวทั้งไทยและเทศ ที่พอถึงช่วงเย็น ก็จะมารวมกันที่นี่โดยมิได้นัดหมาย ทั้งรถส่วนตัว รถทัวร์ รถตู้ จอดกันเต็มลาน จนกลายเป็นตลาดนัดที่ขายสาระพัดบนเขาสูงของเกาะภูเก็ต แต่พอหลังพระอาทิตย์ตกผ่าน พ้นไปแล้ว รถทุกชนิดก็มุ่งหน้าลงเขาไปพร้อมๆกัน จากนั้นทุกอย่างก็เข้าสู่ภาวะปกติ แหลมพรหมเทพจึงมีสภาพที่คึกคักในช่วงเวลา เพียงแต่ 2-3 ชั่วโมงก่อนพระอาทิตย์ตกเท่านั้น

เสน่ห์ของแหลมพรหมเทพ จะเขียนบรรยายให้สวยหรูอย่างไรก็ไม่มีความหมาย หากไม่ได้มาเห็นด้วตาตนเอง และโดยส่วนตัวผมแล้ว ก็เห็นว่า ที่นี่แหละ เป็นจุดชมวิว ชมพระอาทิตย์ตกที่สวยที่สุดของประเทศไทย นอกจากคนไทยจะประทับใจแล้ว ชาวต่างชาติไม่น้อยก็พลอยชื่นชมไปด้วย เพราะหากดูนักท่องเที่ยวที่มาที่นี่แล้ว จำนวนไม่น้อยที่เป็นนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ซึ่งคิดว่า แหลมพรหมเทพ น่าจะเป็นโปรแกรมสำคัญของการท่องเที่ยวบนเกาะภูเก็ต

ภูเก็ตเป็นจังหวัดเดียวที่มีภูมิประเทศเป็นเกาะ เป็นสถานท่องเที่ยวระดับของโลก และก่อนที่จะโด่งดังถึงขนาดนี้ ก็มีสถานที่สำคัญๆและเป็นที่รู้จักเพียงไม่กี่แห่ง แรกเริ่มก็มีแหล่งเลี้ยงไข่มุกที่มีชื่อเสียง เป็นไข่มุกที่มีคุณภาพดีระดับโลก มีหาดทรายและทะเลที่สวยงามมีแหล่งดำน้ำดูปะการัง มีจุดชมวิวที่สวยงาม ก็คือแหลมพรหมเทพ และสภาพทั่วไปรอบๆเกาะยังเป็นธรรมชาติ นอกจากนี้ก็มีที่อาบแดดอยู่หลายแห่ง ชาวต่างชาติที่มาเที่ยวต่างก็ประทับใจ และตั้งฉายาว่า" Pearl of Andaman " หรือไข่มุกแห่งอันดามัน
สิ่งสำคัญที่อยู่บนแหลมพรหมเทพอีกอย่างก็คือ ประภาคาร ซึ่งเป็นหอคอยสูง กลางคืนจะเปิดไฟส่องวับวาบ ให้สัญญาณกับเรือที่กำลัง แล่นอยู่กลางทะเล ประภาคารนี้ได้สร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ในช่วงเฉลิมฉลองกาญจนาภิเษก 50 ปี มีชื่อว่า “ ประภาคารกาญจนาภิเษก ” และตรงจุดนี้ก็เป็นที่รายงานเวลาพระอาทิตย์ตกของประเทศ ทางสถานีวิทยุกระจายเสียงแห่งประเทศไทย ในช่วงข่าวตอนเย็นๆ
แหลมพรหมเทพสร้างความประทับใจให้กับผู้มาเยือนมาเป็นเวลาหลายปีมาแล้ว ทุกครั้งที่มาเที่ยวอาจเห็นภาพและบรรยากาศที่แตกต่าง กันออกไป หากวันใดมีฟ้าใสไร้เมฆ ก็จะเห็นภาพอาทิตย์ลูกกลมๆสวยงาม หรือหากวันใดมีเมฆมากก็จะเห็นภาพไปอีกแบบหนึ่ง การมาชมพระอาทิตย์ตกที่นี่จึงเห็นความงดงามที่ไม่ซ้ำกัน
ผมมาเที่ยวแหลมพรหมเทพครั้งล่าสุดเมื่อวันที่ 7 ธันวาคม 2545 ก็ยังถือว่าอยู่ในช่วงฤดูหนาวที่สภาพทั่วไปมีอากาศปลอดโปร่ง แต่เนื่องจากภูเก็ตเป็นจังหวัดทางภาคใต้ อากาศจึงไม่แน่นอน บางวันแดดดีฝนก็อาจตกเอาดิ้อๆ และยิ่งอยู่บนเกาะก็จะมีความแปรปรวน มากกว่าบนฝั่งหรือบนแผ่นดิน เพราะเมฆฝนสามารถก่อตัวได้จากไอน้ำที่ระเหยจากทะเล แหลมพรหมเทพในวันนั้น แม้จะแดดดี แต่ทาง ทิศตะวันตกตรงแนวพระอาทิตย์มีเมฆมาก วันนี้เลยคิดว่าคงไม่มีโอกาสได้เห็นดวงอาทิตย์ลูกกลมๆค่อยๆจมน้ำ เหมือนที่เคยมาเที่ยวในครั้งก่อนๆ
