จุดเด่น วัดหลวงแห่งแรกซึ่งพญามังรายโปรด ให้สร้างขึ้นระหว่างการสร้างเมืองเชียงใหม่ เรียกว่าเกิดมาพร้อมกับเชียงใหม่ก็ว่าได้ สิ่งที่น่าสนใจในวัดนี้ก็คือ
1. พระเสตังคมณี หรือพระแก้วขาว พระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัยทำจากหินควอตซ์สีขาวขุน(หินเขี้ยวหนุมาน) ซึ่งพระนางจามเทวีนำมาจากละโว้มาแล้วที่หริภุญชัย ต่อมาพญามังรายได้อัญเชิญมาไว้ที่วัดเชียงมั่น
2. เจดีย์ช้างล้อม สร้างชึ้นบริเวณหอนอนชั่วคราวของพญามังราย โดยรอบองค์เจดีย์มีช้างล้อมอยู่ประมาณ 16 เชือก มีอายุเกือบ 700 ปี
ความเป็นมา วัดแห่งนี้เป็นวัดหลวงแห่งแรกที่สร้างขึ้นอยู่ภายในกำแพงเมืองเชียงใหม่ ราว พ.ศ. 1839 – 1840 ภายในวัดยังเป็นสถานที่เก็บรักษาโบราณวัตถุอันมีค่าอยู่หลายชนิด เช่น ศิลาจารึก
